SDK Background and Description
Intel Architecture Labs (IAL) and Microsoft Corporation
jointly developed the WinSock 2 SDK for Microsoft’s
32-bit operating systems which include both Windows 95 and
Windows NT platforms. The SDK contains all of the
components necessary for software developers to create
data communications applications including specifications,
sample applications code, and the DLL components.
Starting with Windows NT version 4.0, Windows Sockets 2 has become an integral
part of the Windows NT operating system. The WinSock 2 SDK now
includes components needed to upgrade an existing Windows 95 system to
WinSock 2. Subject to the terms of the End User License Agreement,
vendors may now distribute this upgrade with their products. WinSock
2 will be incorporated in the upcoming Memphis release of Windows 95.
